It’s Caddis Time on the South Platte River!

The South Platte trout are keying on caddisflies! I recommend carrying a thorough assortment of larvae, pupae, and adults if you plan on fishing the South Platte in the near future. With nearly 200 cubic feet per second coming over the spilling (Cheesman Dam), water temperatures have risen to the mid-50’s which is ideal for reliable caddis hatches near Deckers.

This Spinney Mountain Ranch Cutbow was fooled with a Puterbaugh Caddis. The Puterbaugh Caddis is alocal favorite along the entire South Platte drainage.

My favorite larva, pupa, and adult patterns include: #18 Buckskins, #16 Hydrophyches, #18 Barr’s Graphic Caddis, #14-18 Bead Head Breadcrust, #16-18 Puterbaugh Caddis, and #14-16 Elk Hair Caddis. Caddis hatches should remain strong for the next two to three weeks.
